The forecast was that the rain was to stay away today but, alas that was not the case and players competing in the first round of the Club Championship Triples competition had some tough conditions to contend with as intermittent showers marred their game.

It was to be a close contest as it went down to the last bowl on the last end.

The team of; Barry Drayton, Doug Andrews and Ron Webster won that to edge out; Rob Young, Gary Wynne and Stewart Sturrock 20-17.

The beautiful weather continued in the afternoon when the Club Championship Triples competition resumed with the quarter-final round.

The successful Ron Webster team staged a late comeback in their match against the Dave Perry combination but it was too little to late as they went down by 5 to lose 18-23.

The strong Danny Johnson team which included Col Saillard and Ross Barry accounted for the Palm Lake connection of Bob Peady, Doug Naylor and Alan Greenhalgh 23-16 after Alan’s side held a good lead at the halfway mark.

The much favoured Jeff Baker team, including Bob Weir and Peter Gurney, lost in a close battle with Bob Skewes, Pip Sullivan and Mark Hair 18-20.
