In contrast to the beautiful spring day that the lady bowlers enjoyed on the previous day, Wednesday was bleak, cold and very windy. A field of 44 players took to the green for the usual Wednesday Nominated Triples competition. Two outstanding sides competed for the prize money with the combination of Ken Devlin, Col Amos and Mark Hair just edging out the team of Ross Barry, Peter Gurney and Greg Pearson to fill the winning places. The rest of us will just have to get better! 21 July The freezing conditions spilled over into Fabulous Friday Open Jackpot Pairs today with another great complement of players. All rinks were full. In a game of bowls most teams try to win by the largest margin possible however, not today. To determine the winners for the day the lowest margin was selected discreetly, prior to commencement of play, and was used to determine the first place. Barry Goode and Max Stephens just scraped over the line by 4 shots to win the day with Jean Glover and Keith Smith filling second. The Jackpot was not won and is now reaching a nice little target to play for. With the weather for the coming week looking really good it should be another sell-out next Friday. 23 July On the green was the place to be seen today with some fabulous sunny weather greeting 31 bowlers turning out for Sunday Mixed Bowls. One swinger. The team of David Ransome, Mark Nightingale, John Atherton and Lon Richards won the money. Because of the number of players there were four rinks of Fours played and there was an impres sive 18-4 win. The organisers would like to thank Barry Goode for providing the lunch. The grass green should be back in play shortly so many more bowlers can be accommodated in the Sundays ahead. More teams are required for the Club Mixed Pairs competition with the entry form still on the board. This year the competition will be played over 18 ends and will be a 3-bowl format.
