Despite the weather, 43 players competed in the Wednesday Nominated Triples competition. Five teams completed the double however; it was the team of Ray Prigg, Ron Green and Merv Mills that took home the money on 58 points Col Fossey was the winner of the Myall Bistro Voucher. The Club welcomed back Ron Green, Luke Gliwa, Leigh Hunt and Geoff Page. Great to have you all back! 8 September A large contingent of bowlers representing the Bay Bowlers took on some local players in a “friendly” today. The grass green, although still a little damp, was brought into play to accommodate nearly 70 players enjoying some friendly bowls and great fellowship offered by the Tea Gardens Country Club Bowling Club. It would be fair to say that bowls was definitely the winner. 9 September The final of the Club Mixed Pairs competition was played today in beautiful sunny conditions. Defending Champions, Bette and Col Saillard were opposing Sandra Leisemann and Merv Mills. The beautifully prepared grass green was used for this event and although still a touch slow, proved the perfect venue for the final played in front of an appreciative gallery. It was anybody’s game at the hallway point, even though Sandra and Merv trailed by 3 shots. The likely turning point of the game occurred on the 14th end when Bette and Col picked up a fortuitous 4 to open up an 8 shot lead. Sandra and Merv fought back to win the closing 4 ends but they could not bridge the gap. Bette and Col were declared the Club Mixed Pairs Champions for 2018 winning 14-12. Congratulations to them and to all players taking part in what was a very successful competition. The Sunday bowlers travelled down to Adamstown today to play for the perpetual trophy they have with the Belmont Sports Travelling Bowlers. Tea Gardens won two of the five rinks and went down by 19 shots overall. A good day was had by all and the players will welcome a return visit next year. In other news; Just 12 spots are vacant for the Palm Lake sponsored Open Mixed Pairs to be played on Saturday and Sunday 13/14 October. This is not surprising when players are playing for $2,800.00 in prize money. I noticed that a couple of men players are looking for partners and there is still time to book a slot with entries closing Sunday 3 October or when filled. By The JAFFA
