Heat wave temperatures today prevented any play today in the usual Wednesday bowls.

A smart move on behalf of the organisers as health issues will always take precedent.

A good field of 20 bowlers contested the Friday Open Jackpot Pairs today in warm weather and a slight breeze.

There were 4 games of Pairs and 1 game of triples played.

Rain interrupted play late in the afternoon, however most rinks were finished in time to avoid a drenching.

Today, the highest winning margin plus ends was the formula chosen.

It was the winners of the Triples game that took first place.

Congratulations to; Vic Garlick, Col Amos and Keith Smith.

Runners-up were; Bill Heylbut and Robyn Beaumont. The jackpot was not won.

The semi-finals of the Club Fours Championship were played today in cool, overcast conditions.

On Rink 9, the team of Ross Barry, Mark Hair, Scott Beaumont and Greg Pearson took on the defending champions Richard Lee, Jeff Baker, Sean Mearrick and Paul Syron.

It was an entertaining, tough match but the Greg Pearson combination could not get any momentum going.

At the 14th, ends were divided 7-all, but they trailed by 9 shots.

The pressure kept mounting with the defending champions running away winning 24-10.

On Rink 11, the team of Colin Farrugia, Graham Kelly, Brian Emmett and Kerry O’Brien challenged John Slater, John Younghusband, George Winter and Doug Naylor.

It was all team O’Brien for most of the match. At the 10 th they led 9-4.

The Doug Naylor side slowly pegged that back and it was not until the 17th end that they edged in front leading 12-11.

With two ends to play the scores were tied at 13-13.

A 4 on the 20th end, the first one of the match, favoured the Naylor side and the game was still up-for-grabs going into the last end.

With opposition shots in the head, a last bowl drive by Kerry O’Brien failed to convert with the Naylor team picking up a 6.

The Final score was 23-13, definitely no reflection on the game!
