Work commenced prior to the Christmas break and proceeded early this month when a working-bee of members assisted the greenkeepers in laying the “runners” for the new surface. Our thanks to them! The green will be out of service for some weeks but the wait will be worth the effort with the green being re-levelled and the grass type changed. 6 January The fabulous Friday Open Jackpot Pairs resumed today with 30 bowlers playing in bright sunny and warm conditions, tempered by a very welcome sea breeze. It was great to see the green filled with bowlers with six rinks of pairs and one game of triples. The scoring system chosen for the day was four points for a win and one point for each end won. It was one-way traffic for the two winning teams with the winners only conceding three ends and the runners-up yielding only five. The winners were the dynamic duo of Kerry Faber and Bill Heylbut on +19 and the runners-up, Robyn Beaumont and Merv Mills on +17. Although seven teams had a chance to win the jackpot of $240.00, the winning number was not drawn. Next week it would be good to see the numbers increased for the Friday Jackpot Pairs where players will be competing for $260.00. In other news The first rounds of the Club Championship Fours will be played next Saturday and Sunday, 14, 15 January with 11 teams competing. Preliminary teams have been posted for the 2017 Mid-Week and Saturday Pennant competitions commencing late next month. A number of trial games have been organised by the Selectors and all players who nominated for Pennant selection are encouraged to attend. Sunday Bowls is set to return on Sunday 22 January.
