Despite overcast and showery conditions 46 players, including visitors from New Lambton and Lowlands, rolled up for this week’s Nominated Triples competition.

The winners were determined by allocating 20 points for a win and points for ends won.

It was the stylish team of Barry Drayton, Terry Munright and Ron Webster that won the money.

They were closely followed by Noel Jackson, Greg Smith and Geoff Page.

The grass green appears to be coming along nicely and I suspect bowlers will have the benefit of playing on it very shortly.

5 May

Fabulous Friday Open Jackpot Pairs did not disappoint today with great weather for bowling.

A good field of 24 attended including three lady bowlers.

It was the lady bowlers who really took it to their male counterparts with Bill Moon and Dale Winter winning the first prize money from Lily Smith and Kaylene Pearson filling second place.

The jackpot was not won and will stand at $200 for next week.

6 May

The penultimate round of the Newcastle District Pennant competition was played today with the Mighty Dolphins prominent in two grades.

Grade 3 continued on their winning way with a “must-win” game against Hamilton North at home.

The Sean Mearrick four led the way with a comprehensive 29-13 win over their opponents.

A 6 on the 15^th end lifted the whole side at a critical moment in the game.

The Steve Pell team clinched a 20-15 win in what was a very tough match.

In the remaining game the Richard Lee four conceded two 4’s but fought back well to only go down by 3 shots 15-18.

Tea Gardens winning the Master Board 64-46.

Grade 3 will play away at Boolaroo next week in the final game of the Sectional matches and seems certain to make the Sectional play-off round.

Grade 5 played away at Fingal Bay today against the competition leaders.

They performed remarkably well, considering that they were very much under-strength.

Two teams had close matches but the remaining side were outplayed in their game.

Grade 5 will play their last game of the season next Saturday against Soldiers Point at home.

It was all good news for Grade 6 who kept their Sectional play-off hopes alive with a wonderful win away at Raymond Terrace.

Generally regarded as one of the powerhouses of Newcastle District, lawn bowls Raymond Terrace succumbed to a determined Tea Gardens attack losing all three of their matches.

The Ron Webster four enjoyed a 22-16 win,.

The Doug Naylor team scraped home in a close one 19-17 and rounding off a great day, the Danny Johnson team picked up a fortuitous 5 on the last end to clinch their win 22-19.

The Master Board score favoured Tea Gardens 63-52.

Grade 6 will have a home ground advantage next week when they face Tomago.

7 May

The wonderful spell of great autumn weather continued today with 22 players contesting Sunday Mixed Bowls.

It was good to see many former Sunday players returning to Sunday Mixed Bowls.

The winners, determined by the side with the lowest winning score, were Lyn Nightingale, Mark Nightingale, Bette Saillard and Frank Dunn.

The Lucky Losers were; Michael Kiss, Col Saillard, Dot Montgomery and Karen McPhie.

Please note that there will be no Sunday Mixed Bowls next Sunday, Mother’s Day.

Sunday Mixed Bowls will return on Sunday 21 May.
