8 March

With many players required for Mid-Week Pennant duties away, 36 bowlers battled out the usual Wednesday Gala format, this time over 18 ends.

Twenty points were awarded for a win plus one for each end won.

The winners were Vic Garlick, Col Saillard, Col Fossey and Bill Heylbut.

The runners-up were the Triples team of Denis Wilberforce, Henry Dallas and Bill Bridges.

The third round of the Mid-Week pennants was played today with Tea Gardens taking on Wallsend at home.

This was a tough match with Tea Gardens going down to a well-drilled side.

The Mark Hair side lost 17-23; the Greg Pearson side kept their undefeated status intact winning on the last end 21-20 and the Danny Johnson combination lost by 5 shots 17-22.

The overall result: Tea Gardens 55, Wallsend 65.

10 March

With plenty of bowls played this week it was heartening to see 18 players contest the Fabulous Friday Open Jackpot Pairs today.

The winners, with the highest score were Vic Garlick and Denis Wilberforce.

John Atherton and Bill Heylbut were the runners-up.

The jackpot was not won.

11 March

It is always great to have an away win in Pennant play and the Tea Gardens Mighty Grade 3 Dolphins managed that today at Lemon Tree Passage.

The Richard Lee team managed a 22-22 draw in their match after being stuck on 19 shots for 6 ends.

They won the last three to manage the draw.

The Steve Pell team were never headed and had a great win 24-13.

In the remaining game, the Sean Mearrick team had a 6 shot lead going into the last end when they dropped a disastrous 7 on the last end to lose 18-19.

The match was won by Tea Gardens 64-54.

It was a good day as well for the Mighty Dolphins Grade 6 side that were playing at home against Hexham.

Tea Gardens enjoyed a clean sweep winning every match.

The Max Stephens team won 21-17; the Danny Johnson team won 25-15 and the Doug Naylor combination nailed a great win 27-9.

Tea Gardens winning the contest 73-41.

The Mighty Dolphins Grade 5 side played away at Nelson Bay and on a doughy green went down convincingly 35-87.

Bet they can’t wait to play them at home on a green with a bit of run!

The Kerry O’Brien team lost heavily 8-40.

The Keith Smith side lost 12-27 and the Ron Webster team lost 15-20.

Tough match!

12 March

The Mighty Dolphins Grade 5 side, playing their catch-up round one match against Lemon Tree Passage, redeemed themselves today by managing a close win 57- 52.

The Kerry O’Brien team had a complete reversal of form winning their game 27-14 and carrying the day as the remaining two teams lost in close contests.

The Danny Johnson team lost 13-16 and the Keith Smith combination lost 17-22.

Grade 6 was also playing a catch-up game today playing away to Hamilton North.

The home side were just too good on their home turf winning every game to take the match 64-48.

The Max Stephens team lost 13-21; the Doug Naylor nearly pulled off a win going down 20-21 and the Ron Webster team lost 15-23.

So summing up the week, some wins some losses and plenty of bowls played.
