Isla is the School’s 2019 Minister for the Environment and School Deputy Prime Minister. “As part of Isla’s role within our student parliament, she is responsible for the coordination and conduct of the Clean Up Australia Schools Clean Up Day on Friday 1 March,” Principal Mark Clemson said. “Isla with other members of school parliament are collaborating with classes about locations in and around our school to clean up on the day.” Isla said, “I’m very enthusiastic about Clean up Australia Day.” “I’m looking forward to cleaning up the rubbish around our school so all of the rubbish can go into the correct bin and hopefully together we can make our school a cleaner place.” Isla is keen to change practices around the school. “In class we’ve been talking about “Waste Free Wednesday” and I would like to get the students at our school to use containers instead of plastics every Wednesday which is better for the environment, because rubbish that goes in the wrong place can severely hurt sea animals, wildlife and harms our environment,” she said. MidCoast Council is also encouraging residents to get their friends and family together and join in the annual nation-wide clean up on Sunday 3 March. More than 20 groups have already registered to pick up across the region on the day and anyone interested can visit the Clean Up Australia Day website to join one of the established groups or create your own. “All of us can and should do our bit to make a difference and what better day to start than Clean Up Australia Day,” said Paul De Szell, MidCoast Council’s Director Community Spaces and Services.
