The event, to raise money for the Cancer Council, was organised by our local Boomerang Bags group with the help of the Pearls of Port Stephens.

“We were a bit worried earlier in the week that we wouldn’t get the numbers, but this is an amazing turnout,” Julie Sims said.

“We’re overwhelmed it’s a great success.”

“Shane and Geoffrey, the raffle girls, have been absolutely inundated,” Julie said with a laugh about the husbands of the Boomerang women who helped out on the day.

“We had to leave the venue twice to get more raffle tickets from the Hawks Nest Newsagency which they kindly donated.”

They were dozens of donated raffle prizes and great clothes from the Pearls on sale, the takings added to the coffers of the fundraiser.

Tea Gardens hotel also delivered a great grazing table and delicious treats to the enthusiastic crowd.

For more than 25 years, the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea has been raising much needed funds for a cause close to all of our hearts.

1 in 2 of all Australians are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85.

Last year the Australia wide campaign raised nearly $12 million.

We may be a small community but we’ve got a generous heart.

Those who joined in the Tea Gardens Hotel’s Biggest Morning Tea raised well over $2,500 for the cause last week and had a great day out to boot.
