Meals on Wheels delivers a large selection of freshly cooked and frozen meals to clients who are registered with My Aged Care and have a referral letter. This 2019-20 financial year, the service prepared more than 22,000 meals – up 6,000 meals compared to the year prior. “We have had some very generous community members join us over the past few weeks, but can certainly use more,” Ms Rae continued. “We have a particular need for regular volunteers on Thursdays, but every day is available for those willing to donate their time.” “Kitchen volunteers are rostered on according to their availability; some come every week, others come fortnightly,” she said. Meals on Wheels delivers meals in Hawks Nest, Tea Gardens, Pindimar, North Arm Cove, Karuah, Nerong and Bulahdelah. “We are so grateful for the generous community we live in, and the willingness of people with a little extra time on their hands to help out,” said Ms Rae. “We absolutely could not operate without our volunteers.” Those interested in volunteering can contact the office at 4997 0800.
