The front window of Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Family Research Group will be adorned in a sea of red poppies.

Members of the research group will be hand making poppies for their ANZAC display in the window of Shop 3 in the Myall Plaza, Tea Gardens.

They poppies will come in a variety of forms including crocheted, knitted, felted and sewn from any materials in any shade of red.

The poppies may have a dedication attached to them or can be made just to commemorate the 100 years since the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli.

“You don’t have to have a relative who went to war. We’d just like as many as we can to leave in the window as a tribute. It should look lovely,” Margaret Munright who is behind the project, said.

Contributions are welcome and can be left in Shop 3 or the Community Technology Centre next door.

As part of the 2015 ANZAC commemorations, an organisation known as the ‘5000 Poppies Project Group’ will be ‘planting’ a field of more than 5000 poppies in Federation Square, Melbourne.

Their aim is to have a stunning visual tribute to Australian servicemen and women for more than a century of service in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. After ANZAC Day they are hoping to tour nationally over the next three years for all Australians to enjoy.

Any contributions to the project locally, need to be finished by March 15.

“If anyone needs patterns just let us know and I’ll run some off for you,” Mrs Munright said.

The family research group is now up and running for 2015. The group meets each Sunday and Monday from 10am – 2pm.

For $3 an hour you are able to browse the internet.

The centre has excellent resources and internet sites and members to help where needed.

The kettle is always on and anyone who wishes to drop by will be made most welcome.
