The Tea Gardens Hawks advanced to successive Grand Finals with a nail biting 37 to 36 win against the Windale Warriors in golden point.

A high quality game saw the Hawks lead by 4 points with minutes to go, before the Warriors scored out wide.

An unsuccessful conversion sent the game into extra time.

The Hawks looked to have the game in control, before losing Brooke Roach early in the second half.

The team was looking for leadership, which the Warriors capitalised on.

Jimmy Pelesa scored an inspirational try under the post, and Liam Brown-Heath finished a planned backline move to score out wide.

In extra time the Hawks kicked off and forced a mistake twenty metres out from Windale’s line.

From the ensuing scrum, Anthony Cameron potted a controlled field goal to take a position in the grand final.

Two tries were scored by Liam Brown-Heath, while Isaiah Bower, Jacob Afflick, Carl Williams, Jimmy Pelesa, and Anthony Cameron scored one each.

Jack Beverley kicked 4 goals from seven attempts.

Justin Afflick was best on the park, supported by Anthony Cameron and Jimmy Pelesa. Nathan Ruse played strongly, making three try saving tackles.

Carl Williams on the wing, and Isaiah Bower at fullback were decisive.

Brooke Roach was unstoppable before succumbing to an ankle injury, and John Schultz impacted of the bench.

The Hawks will play Belmont South in the “A” grade decider on Saturday at Lakeside Sporting Complex.

The  game will kick off at 3pm. In b-grade Mallabula play Waratah Mayfield. C grade sees Paterson River play Morrisett, while the d-grade Kotara take on Clarencetown.
