Reigning Big Bash League champions the Sydney Sixers are currently in second place on the ladder behind leaders Perth Scorchers who are undefeated after four matches. The Sixers play the Melbourne Renegades on New Year’s Day and return to Coffs Harbour nine days later to face the Perth Scorchers where captain James Vince anticipates plenty of runs on the Coffs wicket. “The Melbourne Renegades on New Year’s Day will be a great match for spectators, there are no easy games in the Big Bash League and I expect it will be a good match with plenty of runs. “The wicket at Coffs makes for an entertaining match with big scores, the Renegades are a dangerous team and have individuals who can single handedly win matches. “But we also have a number of individuals who can win matches, Josh Phillippe put on a match winning performance last time we played in Coffs Harbour and he is in good form again this season,” said Vince. Vince and Phillippe hold the record for the largest second wicket partnership of 167 in the Big Bash League and they will be seeking to repeat that form to set up another BBL title. “We are currently leading the competition but anything can happen, the Perth Scorchers are undefeated so we know that will be a tough test when we return to Coffs on 9 January to play them. With two games on the Coffs Coast in nine days the England international who was part of their 2019 World Cup winning squad is hoping to see more of the coast. “Playing two matches in Coffs Harbour hopefully means we will get more time to explore the area. “I would like to check out the golf courses and visit the beaches, but I won’t be surfing, remember, I’m from England,” laughed Vince. Tickets for both matches are available from Ticketek. By David WIGLEY
