They were up before dawn last Saturday to put the finishing touches on their creations for the annual ‘Big Cake Bake’ to raise much-needed funds for the Red Cross.

“I didn’t get to bed until after midnight and I was up again at six,” local Red Cross President Jennifer Wenham told News Of The Area.

By 8am they had gathered at the Myall Quays Shopping Centre in Tea Gardens, ready to sell an amazing variety of sweet delights.

From homemade light-as-air sponges to Christmas cakes and mouth-watering apple pies, there was something for everyone and every taste.

The ‘Big Cake Bake’ has become one of the major fundraisers for the Red Cross every year.

Money raised goes to support people in crisis across Australia.

The Myall community helps out in a number of ways.

They not only donate cakes, biscuits, slices and pies but also buy them in abundance.

By early afternoon they were all sold out, the women of the Red Cross now looking to their next commitment, another stall at the Pindimar Market Day on Saturday 4 November.

They are also gathering goodies for a giant Christmas Hamper Raffle.
