Sustainable living on display in Medowie Business Showcase Port Stephens by News Of The Area - Modern Media - October 24, 2023 Join the fun at the Sustainable Living Festival. ON Saturday 4 November from 9am to 2pm, the Sustainable Living Festival (SLF) comes to Ferodale Oval, Medowie. Get involved for a community day full of workshops, activities, live entertainment, local community groups, a huge market, street food, live tunes, kids zone, preloved stalls, gourmet produce and more! The SLF is a huge, family-friendly event being curated by Lauren and Lewis Kearney from Homegrown Markets and a team of fabulous volunteers from EcoNetwork Port Stephens. “The Sustainable Living Festival is about bringing the community together in a fun-packed way to be casually informative about the easy changes we can make to be a more sustainable community, whilst also having heaps of great activities to enjoy,” Lauren said. “We want the event to be enjoyable for all ages so we’ve planned a program of events for the day with different workshops, activities and interactive demonstrations perfect for the whole family.” From Make, Plant and Grow workshops with Feedback Farms, to tie dying with Amitola Colours, a Shark Talk with Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters, a Koala Education talk with Port Stephens Koala hospital, and lots of other exciting things in-between – there really is something for all! Kids will receive a fun event passport upon entry where they can learn different things from around the event and take part in a ‘sticker scavenger hunt’, collecting stickers from all the different stalls. “Sustainable living should be easy and not overwhelming, this is something we’re really passionate about and we have some really incredible local businesses coming along to show how it’s done,” Lauren said. “Resourceful Living will be leading their fantastic Recycle, Reuse, Reimagine: Plastic Product Workshop. “You can also learn how to make your own bee home with Mambo Wanda Wetlands Reserve and Landcare, or sauerkraut making with Homegrown Health.” Local schools will be performing, with an acoustic music area also providing entertainment throughout the day. Lauren said Medowie, with its hugely growing population in the heart of Port Stephens, was the perfect middle ground for residents from across the region to head along and enjoy the day. “Homegrown Markets have hosted a few events in Medowie in the past and they’ve always been super popular so we know the community will get behind this event. “We picked Ferodale Oval and The Medowie Social as the venue as it’s got great indoor/outdoor facilities, beautiful trees for shade, heaps of space and a great amount of parking on-site or nearby! “You really can come from 9am-2pm and spend the whole day busy with great activities. “There will be a great range of handmade and local market stalls, heaps of yummy street food, live performances, sustainability focused workshops all day, and fun activities like tie dying and cupcake decorating. “There will also be local-grown produce stalls, heaps of gourmet produce, preloved/vintage stalls supporting a circular fashion movement, acoustic music, face painting, oversized games and so much for the family to enjoy.” Ferodale Oval is on the corner of Ferodale Road and Kirrang Drive, Medowie, NSW.
