The event was first held in Port Stephens last year and is set to get bigger and better in 2018.

Port Stephens Duty MLC, Catherine Cusack said the major international surfing event will see competitors from all over the world travel to Port Stephens, providing a huge boost to the local economy.

“This event is a key component of a packed events calendar for the Hunter region, which this year has included the Australian Boardriders Battle and Surfest as well as the upcoming international football match between the Matildas and Chile, and the Newcastle 500, just to name a few,” said Ms Cusack.

Liberal Candidate for Port Stephens Jaimie Abbott told News Of The Area, “It’s great for Port Stephens to be able to host this event for the second year in a row which really puts our young local surfers on the world stage.

“I encourage as many people as possible to turn out for the event and show their support especially for our local surfing talent,” she said.

In an addition to last years program the Port Stephens Pro will now include the Kaos Surf PRD Cadet Cup which will run on 3 and 4 November.

These events will provide amateur women and promising juniors the opportunity to experience professional event conditions.

The Bay has some great junior contenders including Mike and Ellie Clayton-Brown and Josh Stretton who have already performed well this year on the circuit.

Josh Stretton took out the Junior Men’s King of the Box last week.

There are hopes that the local knowledge that Port Stephens juniors have of Birubi will stand them on good stead at the Port Stephens Pro as well.
