MidCoast Council’s waste team will redevelop the Stroud Waste Management Centre into a covered Community Recycling Centre and waste transfer station, with an office, tip shop and improved parking.

The facility will be designed to enhance the overall appearance of the site, provide a safe, user-friendly facility to better serve the Stroud community and promote the importance of diverting, recovering and recycling waste material.
“Waste management is a high priority for us and this funding will have a dual outcome for the community as it will not only increase diversion rates but it will help us protect the natural environment,” explained Council’s Director of Liveable Communities, Paul De Szell.

“The new Stroud CRC will focus on recyclables and community education, with general waste to be diverted to one of our other Landfills that is better equipped to manage waste to EPA standards.”

The redeveloped facility will form part of the Mid Coast Council waste network of Community Recycling Centres and waste transfer stations including the award-winning Tuncurry facility.

This funding is from the State Government’s Landfill Consolidation and Environmental Improvements grants, a part of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.

A detailed design will now be created before a tender process will take place.

“We look forward to seeing this new facility come to life and the benefits it will have for the community and the environment in the long term,” added Paul.
