The new program is an initiative of local volunteer Margaret King, and includes reading, dancing and craft activities around a different theme each fortnight.

Margaret told News Of The Area the sessions encourage children to become active readers and future users of the library.

“I love children and I love reading to them, for years I have been thinking that it would be nice to have a little session at the library for young children with some books and some music,” she said.

“I took my grandchildren to one at Maitland Library and I thought this is something that we could do at our library.”

The Storytime sessions kicked off last Thursday with an enthusiastic group of youngsters, including children from Bulahdelah Preschool, who enjoyed the ‘Day and Night’ themed activities together.

Margaret said the sessions are currently held on Thursday mornings on a fortnightly basis and are open to all youngsters in the community.

“We are hoping to have many, many more and hold them every week instead of fortnightly,” she said.

“It’s just great to get the community involved.”
