STUDENTS from St Philip’s Christian College at Salamander Bay cleaned up in the Port Stephens Council Mayoral Scholarships with six students receiving awards under the 2018 program.

The Council program awarded 18 students with a total funding pool of $36,000 being awarded to the youth of Port Stephens.

The school is incredibly proud of these students achievements.

Student Connor McIntyre was the recipient of the Newcastle Airport Scholarship which he will use towards his studies of a combined Bachelor of Journalism/Bachelor of International Studies, at University of Wollongong.

Hayley Thompson received a The Wests Group Scholarship, she is studying a Bachelor of Education (Early childhood and primary), at the University of Newcastle.

Lydia Shaw also received a The Wests Group Scholarship for her Bachelor of Communication and Media, which she will study at the University of Wollongong.

Ruby Hansen-Tarrant was awarded the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club Scholarship and will use the funds for her Bachelor of Social Work, which she is studying at the University of Wollongong.

Sophie Burnett received the Destination Port Stephens Scholarship for her studies in Combined Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/ Social Science, which she will undertake at the University of Newcastle.

Yasmine Turner received the Hunter Land Scholarship for her Combined Bachelor of Commerce with Bachelor of Laws, which she will be studying at Macquarie University in Sydney.

Dr Timothy Petterson, Principal of St Philip’s Christian College told News Of The Area, “I am enormously proud of our students this is a significant achievement that recognises their commitment, quality and character.

“They have invested heavily in their studies and in their community.”

He believes that these students all have wonderful career paths ahead of them and that they are fantastic ambassadors for St Philip’s Christian College.

“We couldn’t be more delighted,” he said.

Port Stephens Mayor said, “It’s fantastic to see the students of Port Stephens so committed not only their own professional development, but also wanting to give back to their community through their professional choices.”
