What was once considered, although the reality was different, the realm of grandmothers, the image of knitting has had a radical makeover.

This has not gone unnoticed by the students at St Joseph’s Primary School, Bulahdelah.

With the assistance of a volunteer, Mrs Jan Peeters, the students formed a learn to knit club this year.

Guided by her expertise, the students learnt their new craft by knitting squares.

Mrs Peeters told News Of The Area, “Rather than only creating something for themselves, the students decided to combine their efforts to make a knitted rug for someone in need.”

Once completed, they decided to donate the rug to Wrap With Love.

This not-for-profit was started in 1992 and since that time has provided more than 414 000 knitted rugs for people all over the world.

They are donated to people, especially to children and families, who experience poverty or natural disasters and are all created by volunteers.

Mrs Peeters said, “Today a beautiful rug knitted with great care and devotion by the children attending St Joseph’s school knitting club was presented to Mrs Mary Leafe representing Wrap With Love.”

“Mary spoke to the children about the organisation and showed some photos of children receiving their rugs.”

The students told Mrs Leafe about how much they enjoy the knitting club and want to keep knitting for a cause.

If you would like to know more about Wrap With Love and how you can knit and donate a rug or just squares phone Mrs Peeters on 02 8399 3000 for more information.
