The Sporting Hope Association got the ball rolling with a social bowls fundraising event which was held earlier this year.

The event was aimed at raising funds to buy a car for Dylan and his family whose need was getting to the point of desperation.

Dylan has nodular heterotopia, which results in daily epileptic seizures; in addition he is blind, unable to walk, talk, sit, and he also has no gait muscles.

A car that enabled Dylan to be transported easily was a high priority for the family.

Sporting Hope’s committee member Jim Hall told News Of The Area, “We are really proud to have been able to raise enough funds and support to purchase a 2016 Kia Carnival which is a suitable vehicle to transport Dylan comfortably and without undue manual handling.”

He believes that community coming together is needed in cases where families are dealing with out of the ordinary circumstances, like Dylan’s family is.

“The Sporting Hope Association would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Nelson Bay Bowling Club, and everyone who supported the event as without this support we would have been unable to provide the vehicle to Dylan’s family,” he said.

The vehicle was presented to Dylan’s mother Kasie Sargeant earlier this month.

The Sporting Hope Association is a not-for-profit organisation which relies entirely on volunteers.
