The theme of the night was ‘So you want to live on a farm’. The event dinner was held at the River Myall Resort with 85 people enjoying fabulous local food accompanied by matching wine and beer. On arrival the guests were served canapes and were entertained by the Sydney Ensemble string quartet which was followed by a mouth watering three course meal. Deputy President of the Great Lakes Food Trail, Dale Bradshaw told News Of The Area, “The aim of the event was to provide information to those thinking of moving to the country on how to get started on a farm and to showcase the great talent we have in our region. “It’s a great way of showcasing our region as many of our visitors came from Newcastle and Sydney.” The speakers covered the areas of more conventional farming on a larger scale like sheep, dairy and beef to more smaller scale intensive farming practices. “It doesn’t matter how big their farm or even if it’s a small block you can do something with it to produce food,” said Mr Bradshaw. The event organisers would like to thank their principal sponsor Local Land Care Services, Big 4 Holiday Park and the Bulahdelah Chamber. “A huge thank you to the team from Tillermans Restaurant and the Food Trail’s own Chef Sarah and Nadine the Cake Queen, who put together a dinner to remember. Thank you to our guest speakers, Andrew Smith, Brett Cooper, Andrew Yeo and Jesse Gollan who spoke on various topics of interest to potential new farmers.” Photos of the night, information and insights into the night is available on the Great Lakes Food Trail Facebook page.
