Snappers and Marlins juniors win NSW Country Championship

Mid North Coast Under 16s Boys side celebrate their win.

COFFS Harbour Snappers and SCU Marlins juniors have combined to triumph at the recent NSW Junior Rugby Union Under 16s State Championships in Coffs Harbour.

The Snappers and Marlins players made up most of the Mid North Coast Under 16s Boys team that won the NSW Country Championship, as they excelled playing on their home turf at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium over the long weekend.

The Mid North Coast team triumphed 3-0 against Illawarra to be crowned NSW Country Champions.

Taj Butcher and Kden Carter were named Forward and Back of the tournament respectively.

Mid North Coast Under 16s Boys coach Paul Butcher applauded the efforts of the Coffs Coast players to defend their title.

“It’s amazing.

“To be back to back champions in 2024 and 2023 is no easy feat considering the talented teams across the state,” he said.

“On top of that we have about 50 kids to choose from where other large zones such as Hunter have over 100 in a single age group.

“The boys have worked so hard and deserve these accolades.”

Marlins and Snappers juniors were also selected into NSW Country teams after outstanding performances at the State Championships.
