Ellie is an ex-Geography teacher and Environmental Sciences graduate whereas Liz is a multi-award winning illustrator and photographer as well as a graduate in Natural History Illustration.

The idea was born when Ellie and her family moved to Magnetic Island in Queensland for a year when her children were small.

Whilst living in this idyllic location, they took part in a turtle release which was the springboard for the book.

A trip to the Turtle Hospital on the mainland educated them about why turtles are in need of our help with one of the main reasons being their consumption of too much plastic.

Ellie found she was amazed when her children began picking up plastic on the beach and by how readily they had understood the message.

The book’s content is delivered in a fun and friendly way that inspires children to make changes to their own and their families’ lives.

The book is available by going to www.duffytheseaturtle.com at a cost of $14 plus $10 postage.

Negotiations are in hand to also sell the book through Take3fortheSea – an Australian organisation dedicated to marine plastic reduction.

The book is raising money for UK, Australian and international marine charities.

Having been read at Shoal Bay Public School to the Year 2/3 students, teacher Jacqui Perry, told Ellie, “The children loved it. It’s beautiful and fitted really well with our Geography topic on sustainability.”

Other schools and pre-schools in the area also have copies they are using with the children.

Ellie told News Of The Area, “I am so excited to see the children’s reaction to the message in my book.”
