Ms Cusack said Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton has granted statutory approval for the council to enter into a 10-year lease for the Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed site at Boomerang Park.

“Port Stephens Council requested the Minister’s approval under the Local Government Act to grant a lease over community land,” Ms Cusack said.

“The council has met all requirements under this process including developing a Plan for Management for the site and providing public notice of the proposed lease and considering any submissions.

“Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed has been serving the local community since 2011 and this lease will ensure security of tenure at its home in Boomerang Park.”

The building on the site was officially opened in December 2016 and a licence to occupy the site was issued to Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed.

The licence was issued as an interim agreement to ensure legal tenure of the site was in place prior to a subdivision which would allow a lease to be granted.

Under the terms of the lease, the facility is able to be used by all members of the community with Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed being the primary tenant responsible for the management of building hire and maintenance.

The lease of the land for use as a Men’s Shed is in keeping with the Plan of Management for Boomerang Park.

Ms Cusack was joined by Port Stephens Liberal candidate, Jaimie Abbott, who praised Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed for their vital work and commitment in the local community.

“The Men’s Shed in Raymond Terrace is an integral part of our local community,” Ms Abbott said.

“The Australian Men’s Shed Association supports nearly 1000 Men’s Sheds across the country.”

“It is a proud organisation, dedicated to improving the health and welfare of its members by encouraging social inclusion and providing a safe, friendly and active environment.”
