Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au The 2020 Uniquely Aussie Awards competition was run by travel website Wotif.com and voted on by Australians, and saw Adelaide’s Schnithouse deemed the national winner of Australia’s Best Schnitzel. Other winners in the Best Schnitty category were Mrs Parma’s in Melbourne’s CBD (2nd), Shamrock Hotel in Alexandria, Victoria (3rd), Una’s in Darlinghurst, NSW (4th), North Wollongong Hotel in NSW (6th), Tingalpa Hotel in Queensland (7th), Settlers Inn at Port Macquarie (8th), Palais Hotel in Semaphore, South Australia (9th), and OG Hotel in Klemzig, South Australia (10th). Seaview Tavern managing director Mark Mihai said his staff were “very proud” to receive this latest honour, which comes on top of the business’ recent 2020 Travellers’ Choice Tripadvisor Award for positive reviews on Tripadvisor. With some of the winners being schnitzel houses, Mark said the honour for the local pub was even more prestigious. “We are the only hotel on the North Coast (awarded) so it’s pretty impressive when we have a full menu and don’t just specialise in schnitzels,” Mark said. The business also won an AHA award for its parmageddon, a chicken schnitzel with a parmigiana topper on it, a few years ago. “We change schnitzels every day, so we’re varying different toppings, we do special toppers and parmageddons,” Mark said. “The chicken schnitzels have always been part of the menu, they are a pretty solid core. “Wednesdays and Thursdays we do schnitzels or steaks as a member special and they walk out the door.” Mark said diners were always complimenting staff about the schnitzels, and repeat customers coming back for the dish proved their popularity. “We are very proud that the Seaview is winning these types of awards, we’ve got great staff and a great hotel so it makes it pretty easy to keep doing a good job,” Mark said. The tavern has been severely impacted by COVID-19 this year, and to combat loss of business caused by the virus the pub started selling its popular chicken schnitzels as takeaway meals and family packs while it was closed for business during the year. NRMA Darlington Beach Holiday Resort at Arrawarra was also named fourth in the Best Holiday Park category of the Wotif annual People’s Choice Awards. By Emma DARBIN
