Based on the concept of trading trash for treasures, the Seaside Scavenge will help promote the recycling and upcycling message to residents, visitors and business across Port Stephens. Local businesses are encouraged to support the Seaside Scavenge and to join the fight to reduce single use plastic across Port Stephens.

Port Stephens Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator Janelle Gardner says this is a new and important event for the area.

“Here in Port Stephens we’re lucky to be surrounded by some of the best coastline around, but with that comes the responsibility to ensure it remains beautiful for years to come,” Ms Gardner said.

“Through the Seaside Scavenge we’re providing a fun opportunity for our community to get involved in cleaning up our beach. Running from 9am to 1pm, the Port Stephens Seaside Scavenge will see community members trading beach litter for a range of vintage and upcycled items including clothes, accessories and more at our pop-up market.”

“We’re working to reduce our overall waste across the area and we’re hoping that this unique event will encourage our community to get involved. Whether it be through donating items for the pop-up market or taking part in the scavenge, there’s something for everyone,” Ms Gardner said.
