The Spirit showcased their dominance by clinching their 15th consecutive triumph at Toormina Fields last weekend, scoring a whopping 71 goals, while conceding a mere two goals in a stellar season. Sawtell coach David Watson emphasised the friendships that have bonded the team. “The team first came together in 2018 as an under 9s team and then played in the inaugural girls under 10s competition,” he said. “Each year they have come back together for soccer with players coming from three different high schools, a testament to the friendships that have been built on the soccer field. “This season the team’s skill, tenacity and commitment to each other has been demonstrated by every single player taking a turn at goalkeeping duties – and only two goals being conceded across the whole season. “Whilst the defence has been steadfast, the attack has been scintillating with 71 goals scored and nine different players finding the back of the net. “As a team, the players look forward to continuing to grow the game for girls and inspiring younger players,” Watson said. Both the Sawtell Spirit and the Northern Storm Cyclones have secured their place in the grand final playoffs, commencing on the weekend of Saturday, September 2. The grand finals will ignite the stage on September 15, 16 and 17 at C.ex Coffs International Stadium. By David WIGLEY Northern Storm under 14s will contest the finals in September
