Sawtell Panthers juniors dominate in first home games

The Sawtell Panthers under 14’s muscle up in defence against the Port City Breakers.

AFTER kicking off their season with a huge gala day in Coffs Harbour, the Group 2 Junior Rugby League season continued with Round 2 matches last weekend.

The Sawtell Panthers teams were at home for the first time this season during a big day of football at Rex Hardaker Oval.

It was a great Round 2 for the Panthers junior teams as six of the seven teams won, while the Sawtell Under 11’s-Red drew 32-32 with the Bowraville Tigers Under 11’s.

The Sawtell Panthers under 14’s were particularly impressive, as a brilliant display of attacking football saw them take a 34-4 lead into half-time in their match against the Port City Breakers.

The second half became more of a defensive contest as the Panthers finished 50-8 winners.

Sawtell Panthers junior president Bec House said it was great to see the junior players back playing in their first home games of the season.

“It feels amazing, to see the kids playing footy again and to have had an amazing day as we did yesterday makes all the hard work worth it,” she said.

“The kids represented the club so well and that’s a massive credit to all our coaches.”

The Sawtell Panthers juniors are back at home tomorrow for Round 3.
