MEDOWIE has yet again shown itself as a tight knit community.

Local mechanic, Jason King, whose wife has recently given birth to their second child and is on maternity leave, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma Hodgkin Cancer.

The diagnosis means that Mr King is undergoing eight months of chemotherapy which means he will not be able to work during the treatment period.

Mr King’s diagnosis came more than 12 months after he was incorrectly diagnosed with a bulging disc in his back.

It wasn’t until his foot dropped that Mr King sought a second opinion and a 10cm tumour was found in his spine.

After an operation, initial chemotherapy, complications identified, and a scan carried out, an enlarged thymus gland was found, leading to Mr King’s Lymphoma Hodgkin diagnosis.

The family has not had an easy 12 months and even though the arrival of a new baby should bring about joy and celebration the diagnosis of Mr King’s cancer one week after his daughter was born has marred that joy.

Sausage Sizzle organiser and Coles employee, Ms Tina Brown told Medowie News Of The Area, “The people of Medowie are lovely and always want to help, so we put our heads together to think of what we could do to support the Kings.”

“They have bills just like everyone else to pay and we are holding this Sausage Sizzle and the Trivia Night in August to help ease their burdens.”

Mr Ben Callen from Medowie Meats donated all the meat for the Sausage Sizzle.

Mr Callen told Medowie News Of The Area, “We heard the story and I thought they could do with a bit of help, so we jumped on board.”

“You don’t realise how tough some people do it.”

In addition to the Sausage Sizzle held on Friday 8 July, a Trivia Night is also scheduled to be held at the Bull ‘n’ Bush on Wednesday, 3 August.

The event can cater for ten tables of ten people and there will also be an auction on the night which has fantastic prizes donated by local businesses such as a cruise.

People are invited to attend the Trivia Night as patrons of the Bull ‘n’ Bush and to bid for items in the public auction.

The Sausage Sizzle raised $249 for the King family.

Donations of goods and cash are being accepted at the Coles’ Service Desk. All cash is transferred to gift cards and presented to the King family.
