Preliminary geotechnical work is already underway, with construction scheduled to start in March and expected to be complete in July 2018. Cameron Donaldson, Council’s Emergency Services Coordinator, says the new building will provide the local RFS with a welcome upgrade to their facilities. “This modern station will ensure the local Rural Fire Brigade can continue to protect and serve the Fingal Bay community well into the future,” Mr Donaldson said. “The Fingal Bay Brigade not only fights bushfires, they also respond to urban fires, car accidents, flood and storm damage and other emergencies. “They are a crucial part of the community, and it’s great that we can play a part in ensuring they receive a much-needed upgrade to their facilities,” he said. Mr Donaldson says the new fire station will be built with modern construction materials. “The building will be constructed with sturdy precast concrete and will feature two truck bays, a multipurpose area, modern kitchen and office facilities and also onsite parking for the volunteers,” he said.
