A Soldiers Point resident, Roz arrived in ‘the Bay’ in 1979 where she opened a coffee shop and her children went to local schools. She was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and a Director of Harbourside Haven. After closure of the local hospital in the early 80s Roz, as Vice President of Port Stephen’s Festivals directed significant fundraising to the ‘Polyclinic Project’. After a long career in Community Services Roz still works part time with people with a disability, families and children in crisis. As a parent Roz was involved in sports clubs and local cultural activities and understands the continuing need for and current issues facing families accessing these services. Roz Armstrong told News Of The Area, “My standing for Council reflects my commitment to my community, to keep it safe and environmentally sustainable. “To do this I will have a strong focus on traffic management, development compliance and transparent communication with Council. “In particular traffic management and parking at Soldiers Point needs a fresh look as does the webcasting of public access and the recording of Councillor voting patterns. Roz is passionate about Council and delivering for the vulnerable. She believes that Nelson Bay is not a paradise for everybody and believes Council needs to work very closely with the State Government to alleviate the area’s homelessness issue. To Roz, delivering some affordable housing is part of the puzzle. “Especially with the new over 55s developments in the region being subject to a lower level of land rates, I believe that they could easily translate that into something for the community. “I was very disappointed when Giacomo Arnott’s motion to have low cost housing included in The Ingenia Boardwalk did not get a seconder,” she said. Roz has been involved in serving her community of Port Stephens for over 40 years and is ready to step up and deliver on Port Stephens Council. By Marian SAMPSON
