This is the 11th Annual Charity Swim held to support local patients and families affected by cancer who attend the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute at Coffs Harbour. Local Coffs Coast swimmers will have the opportunity to participate in a continuous relay of 394 laps of the main Olympic Pool, covering a distance of 19.7 kilometres, which is equivalent to swimming the Rottnest Channel Swim. The “Coffs Harbour Rottnest Channel Swim” will see groups of four swimmers allocated a 30-minute time slot for their continuous relay swim, commencing from 9am. A Serious Lane’ and a ‘Fun/Community Lane’ at the Olympic Pool will be on offer to participating groups. Each group of four swimmers will donate $250 to the CanDo Cancer Trust for their 30-minute block. The event is a continuous relay, and there will be team awards handed out for the most laps swum in 30 minutes and novelty prizes will be awarded to swimmers throughout the day. A BBQ and fun activities will also be on offer on the day. The Coffs Harbour & Clarence CanDo Cancer Trust supports patients and families attending the North Coast Cancer Institute. In an effort to ensure funds remain in the local area and help those most in need, the CanDo Cancer Trust Committee, along with the generous support of the Coffs Coast Freemasons, established the Trust to distribute funds to patients and families affected by cancer. Community groups, businesses, schools, sporting groups and individuals are welcome to participate in the community-based Charity Swim. Bookings for the event are essential and can be made by phoning Wayne Edwards on 0477 299 769 or emailing wedw9236@bigpond.net.au. By Emma DARBIN
