At the formal handover, which includes the passing of the ceremonial presidential chains from the current to the new President, several presentations were made to guests and members. Outgoing President, Geoffrey Hamilton, who has overseen many initiatives this past year, has had what he describes as, “an interesting year.” He announced that the Williamtown branch, “Topped the community listed hours of Volunteer Service for the district.” “Receiving the District Governor’s Recognition for Exemplary Service award was a wonderful high.” Under Mr Hamilton’s leadership, Rotary have also organised another successful Medowie Carols in the Park. The Club has also initiated a new fundraiser which was very popular with locals, Santa Photos at a Medowie café, which raised money for the Shelter Box Disaster Relief, a topic News Of The Area has previously reported. The boxes are designed to be dropped from aircraft over disaster areas, and at a cost of $1000 each, contain items such as cooking equipment, a family-size tent, children’s activities, mosquito net, solar light and other items needed in an emergency. In a light-hearted end to his Presidency, Mr Hamilton paid compliment to his wife, Diana Hamilton, who he married in February this year saying, “I would like to give a huge thank you to my darling wife, Diana, who has backed me all the way, but does keep reminding me that the Presidency was not in the marriage contract.” In his incoming President’s address, Richard Byrne committed to developing the membership of the Williamtown Rotary Club.
