Peter Price, a spokesperson for residents impacted by the newly installed rooftops, told News Of The Area, “Council chose the cheapest alternative with ongoing costs every 18 months due to the intense heat and effects of saltwater on the metal.” Peter Price and other petition signatories believe Council have attempted to reduce costs prior to the upcoming election. “It is amazing even the darker colour, almost turns silver in the reflection, when the intense sun hits them…it can even be seen from 11am by drivers on Government Rd approach.” The residents are still hopeful that a better and more sustainable solution can be reached – this could potentially be as simple as rotating the rooftops to reduce the glare. Project Executives are due to return to the site and meet with residents to discuss further solutions to the glare, which residents say is causing a health and safety issue. Port Stephens Mayor Cr Ryan Palmer told News Of The Area, “The works at Shoal Bay are almost completed, with just some minor landscaping works to be finished off. “The improvements are one of the best community projects that have been delivered by Council. “I look forward to the community enjoying the Shoal Bay foreshore for many generations to come,” he said. However for those living with the glare all day everyday enjoying the Shoal Bay foreshore has become something that won’t happen until the issue is effectively resolved.
