IT’S been a little over a century since people danced the ‘Charleston’ and women were known as ‘Flappers’.

But the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Lioness Club wants us to take a step or two back in time and join in the fun of a ‘High Tea‘ with the theme of the Roaring 20s’ theme.

The event is being held in the atrium of the Tea Gardens Hotel this Saturday May 20 from 2.30pm with bubbles or juice on arrival.

Participants are being encouraged to dress up in the 1920s style, as there will be a Best Dressed Competition and music provided by the Old Bones Ukulele Group.

There will also be a raffle and Roger Carey from ‘Port Stephens Jewellery’ will have a display in the Dolphin Room and discuss jewellery renovation, design, repair and sales.

Last year, the Lioness Club event raised money for ‘Ovarian Cancer Research’, this year funds will benefit ‘Prostate Cancer Research’.

“We have a number of men in the community who are battling this disease at the moment,” Lioness Club President Linda Allen told News Of The Area.

“Please come and help support this cause and have a fun day,” Linda said.

“We encourage the gentlemen to attend this event.”

More than 19,000 Australian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year but survival rates are around 95 percent.

Early detection is vital.

Tickets are $25 per person and are available from the Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest Pharmacies and BT’s for Fashion in Tea Gardens.
