This year around 20 cyclists will ride for 538 kilometres from Grafton to Newcastle, stopping in Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Forster, and Nelson Bay via Tea Gardens. The Ride for Sick Kids has operated every year since 2005 and in that time has raised $2.6 million benefitting the local Ronald McDonald Houses in Newcastle and Tamworth, as well as, the Family Room at Newcastle and Gosford and the Forster Family Retreat. It’s wonderful to be associated with other people who have a desire to improve the lives of sick or injured children and their families,” said Dave Munro. Crag commented that “Over 680 local families used the services of Ronald McDonalds House last year, so its great that we can spread the word about the charity and its programmes through local communities along the way.” Riding with his colleagues is Ronald McDonald Northern NSW CEO Ross Bingham, who has been riding since the inception of the RFSK in 2005 and has subsequently been able to expand the programs Ronald McDonald House offers to families across northern NSW. The funds collected via the ride are vital to the survival of the Houses, family rooms and retreats. Every year the support for RFSK grows within the community and through sponsors like McDonald’s, First National Real Estate and Hadley Cycles. “The money that we raise is significant and makes a huge difference to our programs and what we can do for children and their families,” Mr. Bingham said.
