ON Wednesday 11 November, 102 years ago in 1918, the guns of the Western Front in Europe fell silent after four years of continuous warfare in the First World War.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month is significant as the moment when hostilities stopped.

To commemorate this occasion, the RSL will be conducting an outside service for the community at the War Memorial, ANZAC Park on Marine Drive, Tea Gardens starting at 10.50am, Wednesday 11 November.

In the four years of the war, over 330,000 Australians served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them died.

Twenty-two young men who served were from the Myall Coast.

In honour of their ‘supreme sacrifice’ and for all others who have served, locals are welcome to attend the service, or observe a one minutes silence.

People are welcome to bring a chair and requested to comply with COVID-19 social distancing requirements.
