This tradition was started after World War I, as at 11am on November 11, 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of warfare. For many years it was observed as Armistice Day, but since 1997 it has been officially observed as Remembrance Day, when we remember all those who died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts. Neil Biggar, Hon Secretary of the Medowie RSL sub-branch, told News Of The Area, “We hope to see a good crowd this year at the Medowie service, to join us in paying our respects to all past and present serving members.” The Medowie Remembrance Day Service will be held at Medowie Lions Park beginning at 11am on November 11. All those who wish to pay tribute to those who served are welcome to attend. Medowie Lions park is located at the corner of Medowie Road and Ferodale Road, adjacent to the Medowie Community Centre and opposite Woolworths car park. Please assemble at the park by 10:45am.
