MYALL Koala and Environment Group (MKEG) volunteers raised record funds at this year’s annual Easter stall and raffle. Organisers thanked all the locals and visitors who flocked to the stalls outside Hugo’s Newsagency in Hawks Nest to buy donated goods ranging from DVDs and books through bric-a-brac and plants to a giant dog kennel. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au “Our Easter stall was a wonderful success on a beautiful sunny day,” said Ian Morphett, secretary of the Myall Koala and Environment Group. “There were lots of people in town and our takings from sales, raffle tickets and donations were a record $2,784, compared to $1,787 before COVID. “The record was mostly due to increased raffle ticket prices, the ability to take EFTPOS and greatly increased donations.” The raffle winners were Julie (with ticket 412) who chose a Strelitzia painting by Hannah Matilda and Jacqui Bright donated by Galleries in the Gardens, another Julia (ticket 167) who chose a stuffed koala donated by Marilyn Mercer. Kate (ticket 025) won a sea eagle water colour painting. MKEG raises funds to support numerous activities to protect the area’s endangered koalas, other wildlife and the local environment in general. Ian added, “I must thank all our stall helpers and all those members who donated goods to sell on the stall. “There was a wonderful array of items that contributed enormously to the success of the day.” By Adrienne INGRAM
