The expo saw industry sectors represented including hospitality presented by The Anchorage, Tourism by Moonshadow TCQ Cruises and Flight Centre, Police, Fire

and Ambulance along with legal, trades, childcare, leisure and infrastructure sectors represented.

Certainly the ability to travel the world and take a range of careers around the world or be a hairdresser on a cruise ship inspired more than one student to think outside the square about their career path.

Senior Constable Leanne Mann told News Of The Area, “The most rewarding thing I have ever done in my career as a police officer was to deliver a baby.”

Students also learnt about base salaries and career pathways that they can develop into the future such as specialising within the police force, after completing their initial degree, and about the type of person that suits certain jobs.

“Police and emergency services personnel go towards danger,” she told the students.

Students were also issued with their portfolios on the day and were advised on employers expectations for first time employees.

The need for students to be honest in interviews and deal with their weaknesses was discussed with strategies put forth for those who felt that their reports may not be seen favourably by potential employers.

The Real Futures Foundation encourages students to volunteer and participate in the community with the Foundations Ambassadors committing to participating in Bunnings BBQ’s with the Rotary Club of Salamander Bay.

The Foundation encourages local businesses to give local students a go and provide opportunities for youth employment.

Businesses interested in providing a young person an opportunity can contact the Foundation for assistance in finding the right young person for the role.
