The team at MidCoast Libraries are excited to announce that the Better Reading Better Communities (BRBC) program will be rolled out to the Gloucester community over the coming months.

This program aims to support people in our community and started in the Great Lakes region, following a successful grant application written by staff from Forster Library and North Coast TAFE.

BRBC has been a huge success in the Forster community since early 2013 and is now in its early stages in the Tea Gardens community.

There are so many ways this program can support members of our community, including improving reading and writing skills, assistance with study, help to understand legal or medical documents or helping people to learn English as a second language.

Another major benefit is improving work opportunities for clients taking advantage of the program.

To successfully implement the program in Gloucester, the team at MidCoast Libraries are on the lookout for anyone who might be interested in becoming a Volunteer Tutor.

To find out what’s involved, an information and enrolment session will be held at the Gloucester Library from 10.30am on Friday 24 February 2017 where you can find out more about the training, support and your valuable role in the success of the program.

“Empowering others with these important skills can be just as rewarding for the tutor as it can be for the client,” said MidCoast Council’s Manager of Libraries, Chris Jones.

For those who decide to become a Volunteer Tutor, a free workshop will be held from 9am to 1pm on Tuesday 21 March at the Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Group.

This will cover an orientation of the online course and TAFE online website, all related resources, a briefing on the assessment tasks and ongoing support.
