Too many men die each year from preventable disease.

Unfortunately, many men do not realise the seriousness of their symptoms and do not seek early medical advice.

President of the Rotary Club of Raymond Terrace, Mr Steve Merritt told News Of The Area, “Men are slow to go to the doctor to get something attended to that will go away if I put up with it for a while.”

The Rotary Club of Raymond Terrace is pleased to be hosting the Men’s Health Education Rural Van (MHERV) in William Street, Raymond Terrace outside LJ Hooker from 10am to 4pm on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 May.

MHERV is a purpose built caravan with two consulting rooms travelling through NSW regional and rural areas testing men for signs of health issues.

MHERV is a Rotary project run mainly by the Warners Bay Rotary Club and is sponsored and supported by many Rotary Clubs across NSW as it visits over 60 towns in a year on a schedule that includes Raymond Terrace.

It is staffed by a full time Registered Nurse, Mr Robert Woolley.

MHERV has many times identified a life-threatening condition and potentially saved someone from an early death.

Mr Merritt said, “I hope to see as many men as possible come to be tested.”

The health tests are offered free of charge, with the cost met by Rotary fundraising and sponsorships.

Major Sponsors are the not-for-profit Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution, and the NSW Department for Health.

The free tests are non-invasive, being for body mass, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar (diabetes).
