One of their two teams, ‘Funny Bones 3.0’ (pictured), took out the Primary Language Literature division and their other team ‘Terrace Terrors’ took out the Engineering Mathematics Division.

An intensive seven week competition preparing a ten minute performance solution to set challenges, climaxing with a TOM Regional competition which was held at Newcastle Grammar School.

TOM is a problem solving programme for teams of students from both primary and secondary years from both the private and Public Education sector.

Tournament of Minds is one of the fastest growing international school programmes with the involvement of thousands of participants.

Both teams competed against both State and Private (Grammar/Catholic) schools on the day and to come away with TWO First Placed Regional Teams was an incredible achievement for our local students.

Teachers Bernadette van de Wijgaart told News Of The Area, “Tournament of Minds is an intensive competition which fosters inquiry based learning solutions to creative and complex challenges.”

“This was my 3rd year as a TOM facilitator and it is a wonderfully rewarding experience for both students and teachers.”

“In 2015 Raymond Terrace Public School won at Regional Level and last year received Tournament Honours.”

“To have both of our 2017 teams achieve 1st Place wins is an incredible achievement, a real celebration of quality Public Education,” she said.
