The girls competed in the ‘Tournament of the Minds’ competition.
The team of seven girls, creatively named ‘Funny Bones 4.0’ first competed at the local schools level of Tournament of the Minds, at Newcastle Grammar School, where they won their Social Sciences Division.
At this competition, two other local schools also shined, with Grahamstown Public School receiving ‘Tournament Honours’ and Medowie Public School also competing to a high standard.
As a result of their impressive victory at the local level, the Raymond Terrace Public School ‘Funny Bones 4.0’ team earned their spot to compete in Sydney.
Libby, Talleira, Shakyia, Mikayla, Jasmine, Alya and Kaylee competed at the University of New South Wales in the Primary Social Sciences, representing The Hunter Region.
Raymond Terrace Public School teacher, Bernadette van de Wijgaart, told News Of The Area, “Tournament of the Minds offers a unique opportunity for students from all sectors to compete in what is essentially a Future Focused Learning project.”
