In celebrating volunteerism this week NOTA couldn’t go past making mention of a volunteer that has given up his time for the betterment of his community of Raymond Terrace for half a century. Many Lions serve for years – but it is a rare occasion when a Lion from Raymond Terrace simply takes the gong – having racked up an incredible 50 years of service. Bruce Townsend celebrated his service recently by being presented with a 50 year Service Medal just before lockdown began. Neil Goldthorpe told News If The Area, “Lion Bruce Townsend was presented with a 50 year Service Medal from Past District Governor Ken Hallam. “Our present District Governor was there to praise Bruce’s achievements as too his immediate Family of Rita and his daughters. “As always Bruce was very humble acknowledging the part of the many Lions who helped him through his Lions Service,” he said. Lions groups will be back out in the community when the lockdown rules allow for them to safely do their work. 100% of all Lions’ fundraising goes back into the communities we serve. The NOTA adds our voice to giving thanks to the volunteers of our community. By Marian SAMPSON
Congrats to Bruce Townsend for his 50 yrs service with the Lions club. He helped our mum Tamara Sliwinski, and us as children when our beloved father, andrew passed away in 1960. God bless you Reply
