In addition to the everyday challenges of high school, Jacobi also has to find the time to fit in twelve hours of training each week at the Raymond Terrace PCYC to help her accomplish her goals in the field of gymnastics. It truly is a labour of love, but her hard work has definitely paid off. Jacobi is the first gymnast at the club to achieve Level 10 accreditation, the highest level in the National Development Program. This accomplishment has started to open more than a few doors for Jacobi. One such opportunity was the recent Prime Gymnastics Invitational, held in Singapore, where 500 gymnasts from Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines competed in an invitation only competition. After the event, Jacobi came home with a bag full of medals. Jacobi earned two bronze medals in the Floor Exercise and Balance Beam events, silver in the Uneven Bars and a gold medal in the Vault. Those efforts combined to earn Jacobi third place overall in the competition, which is a truly amazing achievement. Jacobi’s mother Susan, who accompanied Jacobi overseas, said “this was an amazing experience for her to compete internationally, in addition to these new results in Singapore, last year Jacobi had great success in Las Vegas in the Lady Luck competition and came away with eight personal medals as well.” Jacobi has shown that she has the talent and determination to become one of Australia’s best gymnasts. Come the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, we may well be watching Jacobi show the world what a young woman from Raymond Terrace can do on the world stage. There is a long road between then and now, but one thing is for sure, Jacobi is well on her way. By Rachael VAUGHAN
