CHILDREN in the Raymond Terrace region who receive assistance during an emergency, may well be receiving a special furry friend to help them through a difficult situation.

This ‘Trauma Teddy’ project may have began in Victoria 30 years ago, but it has recently spread to other states including New South Wales.

These cuddly bears offer comfort to a child whose family has been made homeless, or involved in a road accident, or a child affected by domestic violence or sexual assault.

Raymond Terrace Lions Club met with Raymond Terrace Fire & Rescue last week to ensure the safe delivery of a box of special bears.

“Lions is all about helping those who need us in the community, and we couldn’t be prouder to be part of this special project,” Club president Judith Bee told News Of The Area.

To put things into perspective, eighteen bears are worth 70 of the beautiful sausage sandwiches that the Lions Club sell at a variety of venues including Bunnings sausage sizzles, driver reviver stops and other locations where the smell of a Lions sausage sizzle stops you in your tracks.

Better yet, the bears are very safe for all children to enjoy as they are low allergen and manufactured under high quality controls and conditions.

Raymond Terrace Fire & Rescue are the proud recipients of this particular set of bears, however it is sobering to remember why they are required in the first place.

“We’d love to not have to use them at all of course but we’re glad we’ve got them.” Captain of Raymond Terrace Fire & Rescue, Dennis Peters, told News Of The Area.

“I’d like to express a massive thank you to the Lions Club, we really appreciate the community connection.”

Raymond Terrace Lions CLub hope to donate another box of teddies soon to the NSW Ambulance Service.
