
FORTY-five Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre (RTAC) athletes competed at the recent Port Hunter Zone Championships which they also hosted at their field.

It was an incredibly successful weekend for their athletes who competed against the 10 other Centres in the Zone.
Three Under 7 athletes, Mila Clarke, Charleise Chivers and Boston Maloney won a total of 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. They are awarded medals at Zone as they do not progress any further.
The remaining 42 athletes have all qualified in a total of 132 events for the Region Championships at the Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale, in February. This is the first time to have all athletes qualify.
A record number of 22 records were set or broken by 15 of the athletes.
The RTAC’s most successful age group was the Under 17’s, with 6 of them setting or breaking records.
Under 17 Nathan Swan and was the Clubs most successful athlete overall, setting 3 new records.
For the first time, their 4 relay teams each finished first to qualify for Region.
The RTAC also finished second overall and first in the handicap pointscore.
There were also personal bests in every age group.
The Raymond Terrace athletes are to be commended for their behaviour, sportsmanship and achievements.
Prior to Region, the athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the NSW Country Championships to be held at Glendale on the Australia Day long weekend. It will also include the running of the Hunter Track Classic.
