Rail, Trams and Bus Union NSW Secretary Alex Claassens said it is critical local MPs in regional areas like Myall Lakes ensure local transport is catered for in the State Budget, which will be handed down on Tuesday 23 June. “The State Government talks a lot about the Sydney CBD, but what about the transport needs of regional NSW?” Mr Claassens said. “It’s critical that Stephen Bromhead fights to ensure the transport needs of the area are included in the State Budget. “We’re asking the State Government to deliver on its election commitment to replace the current XPT and Xplorer trains which are out-dated and simply not up to the standard commuters deserve in 2015. “We’re also calling for improved security on our local transport systems, including an increased security presence, saliva testing kits for local workers, and personal security alarms for workers at risk of assault. “This State Budget is an opportunity for Stephen Bromhead to show that he is committed to improving the transport needs of the local community,” Mr Claassens said.
